My Fellow Rotarian;

Good afternoon!  I have to share with you one of the new ways that parents get their little ones to behave.  You know the old Christmas song?  You better watch out you better not cry, you better not pout I’m telling you why Santa Claus is coming to town.  Well you know the rest.   Now it seems there is Elf on the Shelf.  This elf when purchased even comes with a DVD to have the young ones get the message that the Elf (and of course you have to name it as well) will sit on…wait for it… a shelf and watch you.  So if you are going to misbehave, the elf will tell Santa because every night he/she goes back to the North Pole and reports in.   The next morning the child awakes to see that the Elf must have went to see Santa because now the Elf is sitting somewhere else!  Anyway, it seems to work for my oldest son and daughter in law with our two grand boys.   I get to see them this weekend for our early Christmas so I will report back on how well they are behaving!

At our last meeting Vernon Turner presented our Rotary Inspiration by showing us the latest Peterson Brothers YouTube video (can't link, the bank blocks Youtube) and the message is to have a passion for what you do and give back what you can.  And with that Vernon present me with a check for $100 towards our Rotary Foundation goal.

We then welcomed two new Rotarians to our club Fr. Patrick Funston introduced by Ike Ehie and Chris Nolte introduced by Jim Lindquist.  Welcome Fr. Patrick and Chris!!

We have two socials coming up next year.  January 28th to see the Peace Fellows exhibition in Chang Gallery, College of Architecture and February 13th to tour the new Farm Credit Building.  See Keith Westervelt, George Ham, Tony English, Katrina Lewis or myself to sign up.

John Broberg then introduced our guest speaker Dr. Felipe Rosso.  Dr. Rosso gave an energetic presentation on robotic surgery and prostrate cancer.  From the questions asked afterward I think the good doctor was a hit!  At least he didn’t show pictures of me!  He is willing to speak periodically on other medical topics so we will welcome him back sometime next spring.

This Thursday, December 19th will be our last meeting in 2013 and our program will be the ever popular Pops Choir from Manhattan High School.  See you then!

Wishing you all the best this Holiday season.

Dick
