Fellow Rotarians,

If you missed last week's meeting, you missed a good one.  Jay Merrill introduced our newest member, Gavin Garmin.  Please introduce yourself to Gavin and welcome him to our club.  We look forward to his contributions and involvement.

As usual, C. Clyde Jones provided a very creative and informative introduction of Coach Bill Snyder.   Coach Snyder talked more about football during this program than I ever remember in prior appearances. He a lso seemed somewhat optimistic about this year's team, which is as unusual as him talking about football!   Coach spoke of how his players continue to impress him and make him proud in how they go about their lives as young men doing the right thing.  His players have done good deeds, not seeking notoriety or publicity, but because it is the right thing to do.  I think many of us in the community are proud of Coach Snyder for the same reasons.  I noticed last week in the media coverage of the Big 12 Media Days from Dallas it was pointed out that Coach Snyder is the oldest coach, by far, in the Big 12 Conference.  What they failed to mention is he is also the best coach, by far, in the conference.   We are indeed fortunate to have such an outstanding head coach and staff.

As summer gradually winds down and we prepare for the beginning of a new school year, be thinking about what work needs to be done within your committees. O ur next club assembly day will be August 28th.  This is a day we set aside during our regular meeting time so that committees can gather to discuss goals/objectives and accomplish some work.  I hope to have another assembly day set before the end of the year. Having an assembly day set aside for committee work was Past President Dick's initiative and I believe it serves our club very well.

Speaking of committees, Vernon Turner will be posting our current committee roster on the club website in the near future.  Remember if you are not on a committee and have an area of interest, it is never too late to get involved.  C. Clyde Jones is chair of a newly formed sub-committee that reviews and recommends Cup Money recipients to our Board of Directors.  C. Clyde wants to hear from you if you have an organization or a worthy cause that should be considered as a recipient of our monthly Cup Money.

This week we look forward to Tom Roberts introducing our newest member, Martin Seay.  It's great to see young and enthusiastic new members joining our club.  Actually, it's great to see all of you each week, young and not so young. We are becoming a very diverse club which I believe will serve us well into the future. I'm excited that K State's new women's basketball coach, Jeff Mittie, will be this week's speaker.  Please join me in extending a warm Rotary welcome to Coach Mittie. I hope to see you at lunch this Thursday!
