Fellow Rotarians, As Thanksgiving rapidly approaches, I have so many people to be thankful for in our Rotary Club. It takes time and effort from many Rotarians to make our club successful and enjoyable. There are too many of you to list here, but you know who you are and I appreciate all you do for the good of our club. Last week, in recognition and honor of our veterans, Major Shawwn Martin and several ROTC Cadets opened the meeting with a very meaningful and memorable ceremony. I appreciate Major Martin, the cadets and the care and thought that went into the presentation. Don Rathbone introduced Carol Hess as our club's latest Paul Harris Fellow. Carol commented this had special meaning to him since he was receiving this recognition on a day in which our veterans were honored. Vern Henricks gave us an overview of philanthropy globally and the trends that are developing in charitable giving. Thanks to Vern for an interesting presentation and for his outstanding contributions to our club and community. Lawrence Central Rotary Club is selling wreaths and holiday decorations from Lynch Creek Farm with proceeds going to The Rotary Foundation. If you are interested in supporting this project, the attachment will direct you to a website that provides Lawrence Central with 25% of sales that are then donated to Rotary Foundation. Speaking of The Rotary Foundation, I have just completed a letter to all club members who have not yet made an annual gift to our Foundation. Each year our club sets a goal for an average of $100 per member, which resulted in this year's goal of $19,000. Many members make larger gifts than $100, so any amount you can give will help us reach our goal. Please consider making your gift now so we can reach our goal sooner rather than later. Please save the date of December 11th as that is the date of our next club social. Jay Nelson, of Strecker-Nelson Gallery has offered to host this event for us. I understand they will have their holiday display ready for us to enjoy that night along with cocktails and appetizers. These events have proven to be very enjoyable in the past and I hope you will plan to attend. You will be hearing more about this event in the near future. This week we will welcome Allison Penner Disbrow as our newest member. We will also recognize our MHS Students of the Month for November. Our program this week will be provided by Sally Bailey, Director of the Drama Therapy Program at K State. We will not have a meeting on Thanksgiving Day, November 27th and I will take that week off from this weekly email. That's just another reason for all of us to be thankful for our good fortunes! I hope to see you this week for lunch but if not, Happy Thanksgiving. Scott Emley
