Greeting Rotarians,

The outstanding weather we enjoyed this past weekend is a reminder that a change of season is upon us.  In many ways our club is experiencing a similar "change of season."  Your board recently approved a change in our Student of The Month project and you'll learn more about that during our upcoming meeting.  The board also approved a change in our monthly board meeting from the first Thursday each month to the second Thursday of each month.  While this seems like a minor change, it will be very beneficial to those board members who are responsible for having monthly reports prepared for our meetings.  This will allow board members more time to prepare, distribute and review monthly club reports. Ultimately, this will allow your board more time to consider meaningful activities and projects that meet our challenge of service above self.  You'll also be learning of more projects and "challenges" the board is considering in the coming weeks.

District Governor Debra Rodenbaugh-Schaub has asked our club to consider being involved in sponsoring and supporting a new club in Wamego.  While no decision has yet been made to start a new club, this is something that has been on District 5710's agenda for s ometime now. I'm in discussions with district officials trying to determine exactly what is required if we choose to be involved.  Apparently there has been a high enough level of interest in the Wamego area to warrant pursuing the idea of a new club.  Your board wants to hear from you regarding this issue.  If you were involved in the process of forming the Konza Club, or any other club, we want your feedback. If this is an area of interest to you and you want to be involved, please let us know.

Again this year, like last year, Walgreen's is making flu shot vaccinations available to our club before and during our October 2nd meeting.  Thanks to Cassidi Green, Ken Gartner and Walgreen's for making this possible.  Details will be provided during our meetings over the next few weeks.

Last week we had the pleasure of introducing our newest Rotarian, Chris Bailey.  Chris practices Elder Law here in Manhattan and I'm impressed with his commitment as he has already begun serving on a club committee.  The board has approved the transfer membership of last week's speaker, Phil Mattox.  We look forward to Phil's involvement and contribution to our club.

This week we will introduce our two newest Rotarians, DJ Rezac and Shawnn Martin.  Our program will be Pat Farley, President of Kansas Regenerative Medicine Center.  KRMC is an affiliate of Stem Cell Surgical Network.  They are a stem cell treatment center located here in Manhattan.  I'm anxious to learn more about KRMC and to share another Thursday lunch with you.  I hope to see you Thursday!
