My Fellow Rotarian;

I hope your weekend went well.  We had a change in plans this past weekend as the weather forecast was enough for us to miss our oldest grandson’s birthday as he turned 5.   Not a tragedy but as many of you know, you can’t get enough time with grandkids!  So I went to the K-State game vs Iowa State Saturday evening.  And while it was a great game and a better win I have to say, walking across that parking lot with an 8 degree temp and wind, snow and SLEET blowing out of the north is the longest 10 minutes!   March really did come in like a lion!  The only good thing is I did get my golf clubs re-gripped trying to focus on the fact that this winter will eventually end.

Anyways, on to Rotary business.  One of the club’s goals each Rotary year is to meet our goal of each member giving $100 every year to the Rotary International Foundation.  For this Rotary year we are slightly over halfway there with only 41% of our members giving.   $9,750 would allow us to reach our $20,000 giving goal.  Just under half of our membership has given and I thank those generous Rotarians so much for that.  We need 98 members to give $100 before June 1st.  I realize we are all pulled in different directions when it comes to charities so anything you give will be most appreciated and it counts towards being a Paul Harris fellow.

Our Rotary Inspiration on the first meeting of the month is given by one of the committee members of Rotary Foundation.  These are very informative and heartfelt.  Give a listen.

Our meeting last week was filled with welcoming a new Rotarian Stephen Spidle introduced by Jack Ryan.  Our guest speaker, introduced by John Armburst was Retired Colonel Bill Clark and current director of the Flint Hills Regional Council gave us reasons to be engaged with working with other communities in the Flint Hills to provide for all families living here and not just those stationed at Ft. Riley.

We recognized students of the month Hannah Devane and Albert Cochrane which is my segway to telling you this week’s speaker is Carol Adams Executive Director of Teaching & Learning for USD 383speaking to us on Kansas College and Career Ready Standards.  She will be introduced by Bob Shannon.

See you for lunch this Thursday!  Thank you for being a Rotarian!
