My Fellow Rotarian;

Good Morning!  With Martin Luther King Day this past Monday the week is slipping by fast!  Speaking of MLK day, we again sponsored and volunteered at the Ice Skating rink for Free Skate Day.  Shout out to Jeff Geuther for chairing the event.  We had plenty of help there to assist in distributing and cleaning the skates when returned.   The City Parks and Rec department indicated 947 folks took advantage of the free skate day which was a record turn out beating last year by over 100!  We also donate money to the City which goes towards purchasing new skates.  Growing up in Dubuque Iowa winters were cold enough for lakes and ponds to freeze as well as flat areas of city parks to flood and have ice rinks.   So for me watching everyone enjoy themselves on the ice it brought back fond memories.  I wasn’t going out there because one of my not so fond memories was face planting myself as a 13 year old and getting 8 stiches under my chin!  And with my son’s wedding coming up next week I wasn’t about to take any chances!

A reminder that we have two social outings coming up: On the 28th of January at the Chang Gallery at Seaton Hall on KSU campus will be the Fellowship Peace Exhibition and February 13th will be a tour of the new Farm Credit Building out near Colbert Hills.  Check our website to sign up if you haven’t already done so.

For the meeting this Thursday we will be voting on new officers for Rotarian year 2014-2015.  Ballets will be distributed at that time.

Your slate of executive officers recommended by your board of directors are:  Scott Emley, President, Betty Stevens, President elect, and Vernon Turner Vice President.

Thursday our guest speaker will be our own past President Lyle Butler. Lyle will give us the Chamber’s outlook on economic and business development in the Manhattan area.  Also looking ahead, January 30th will be Ron Fehr, City Manager for Manhattan.

I will not have an e-mail out next week as previously mentioned I will be out of town for my son Joe’s wedding.  Past President Ike Ehie will be chairing the meeting on January 30th.

See you for lunch this Thursday!  All the best!

Dick
