The Rotary Club of Manhattan has a new president.  Ike Ehie, the current president, concluded his one year term as president on July 11 and will be succeeded by Richard (Dick) Wertzberger. Ehie presented Wertzberger to the club as the next club president.

In his farewell speech, Ehie thanked club members for the honor to serve as president and the support provided by each member. “I will have nothing but fond memories about getting to know each of you better in this past year” he said.  “Serving as your president has provided me with better and deeper appreciation of what Rotary does around the world.” He specifically thanked George Ham, the club secretary, who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support his role as president.

Ehie is a professor of Chain Management at the College of Business, teaching courses in Quantitative Management, Operations Management, Project Management, and Supply Chain Management.  He is married to Chinyere Ehie, a teacher in USD 383, who accompanied him at the farewell event.

In his tenure as president, Ehie led the club in launching the first Rotary Peace Forum, among other service projects. The Peace Forum brought together Kansas communities, corporate organizations and the Civil Society to discuss the meaning of peace through service. Co-hosted by the Manhattan Konza Rotary Club, The Manhattan Rotary Club, and the Kansas State University School of Leadership Studies, the Forum brought in several local, national and international speakers and others who presented their service projects globally. Ehie hopes this will become an annual event to celebrate the role of Rotary Clubs globally.

Rotary is a service-oriented club with more than 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs whose mission is to support education, job training, clean water, combat hunger, health and sanitation and to eradicate polio throughout the world.
