It's with sadness that I report the passing of Rotarian C. Clyde Jones last Friday, October 31st. He would have been 103 on December 21st, and we so enjoyed his presentations of Rotarian of the Year in the past.

Greeter Jonathan Hubb told us about himself. He's been a member since 2023 and is pastor of Bluemont Church. He was married to Reagan who passed away 4½ years ago and has 3 sons and 2 daughters. Jonathan remarried Michelle 3 months ago, from Brazil that he met at KU.
He appreciates the inside track into Manhattan that Rotary has provided and volunteering for service projects. An unknown fact about him is that while married twice, he has only dated 2 people in his life!

Dave Lewis then told us he and Jonathan have a lot in common. Also widowed, Dave remarried Sharolyn Jackson 6 weeks ago, but has dated more than 2 others. He's had a long-term stint on KMAN radio since 1991. Dave has 1 daughter and 1 son. He's an 'entertainment entrepreneur' around the Midwest with about 80 events this year. He's been a member of the Club over 5 years, and is a strong advocate of mental health issues and cancer research. Faith, family and friends are his foundation, and he appreciates being welcomed into the Club.

I was please to recognize 7 long-term members with anniversaries in October totaling 219 years: Don Wissman, Jim Ryan, Karen Cole, Cindy Zapletal, Nelson Galle, Lyle Butler and Ole Olsen.
Liz Nelson then gave a final October Polio Month report, noting the only cases in the world in Pakistan and Afghanistan. She told us how to make various contributions.
October had several polio events, including the Manhattan City Commission and Governor Laura Kelly's proclamations. I also repeated my promise to provide new Polio Society donors with a pair of red, Rotary polio socks!

Vernon Turner followed on last week's types of mental health issues with the treatment that are available in his Mental Health Moment. These include evidence-based medications, psychotherapy and psycho-social services, making wellness and recovery possible.

Bill Richter introduced Roger Aeschliman of District 5710, where he serves as Rotary Foundation Chair. Bill has known Roger as a friend and former student; he is a long-time member of the Topeka Rotary Club and is SVP at CoreFirst Bank & Trust.
He's a retired Kansas National Guard colonel and performs re-enactments of Gen. George S. Patton.

Roger presented The ABCs of the Rotary Foundation, explaining the purpose and impact of the Annual Fund, Endowment Fund, PolioPlus, District Grants, Global Grants, and more. It began with Arch Klump's vision in 1917 where the Kansas City club began with $24.50!
Roger noted District Grants benefit our local community. Half our contributions to the Annual Fund return to the district's clubs for grants. Also, Rotary Foundation Endowment donations designated as SHARE are split 50/50 between our district and Rotary worldwide projects, including the Global Grant Scholar program.
The Rotary Disaster Response Fund provides funds for global disaster relief.

On behalf of Roger, we donated the children's book "Life After Whale" to the Frank V. Berman Elementary School. We also shared Roger's presentation with the Club.

Thanks to Jonathan, Dave and Bill Muir for greeting, and Dr. Reitz for piano, and thank you to Roger Aeschliman and the Rotary Foundation.
