Today is what spring is supposed to be here in the Flinthills!  Sunny, fresh air, and a cool breeze!

This past Tuesday was our last Rotary social outing at MATC.   We met at 5:30 PM.  These outings are a great reminder of how Rotary started.  The members met at each others place of business to get to know them and their business better!  We look to have close to 40 Rotarians there.

I have to say that last week’s speaker, Yuval Ron, inventor of the Earth Harp just blew me away with his talk.  He shared how Rotary actually plays a part in his efforts in building bridges between peoples of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths through music.   He represents what Rotary International is truly all about.  To be honest I had no idea what to expect and was truly inspired.  Thank you to fellow Rotarian Todd Holmberg for setting this up.

As part of our first meeting of the month our Rotary Inspiration is given by one of the committee members of the Rotary Foundation.   Thank you to Tom Fryer for giving us a quick insight as to the good works our monies give to RI.  He also told how easy it is to set up giving automatically monthly through auto debit. We are inching our way to our goal of averaging $100 per member per year.  Those that have not given as of this e-mail will be receiving a letter from me urging you to consider a donation.   I hope you will consider it.

Not sure if you all know this but fellow Rotarian Sean Speakman recently left our club as he accepted a new job in Texas.   We wish him all the best and thank him for his service.  Speaking of service, Sean was a member of this year’s board of directors.  At our board meeting last Thursday the board unanimously elected Megan Lofton to fill Sean’s remaining term on the board.   Megan is one of our newer members and I appreciate her willingness to serve!

The board also approved dues for next Rotary year that begins July 1st.  The board set dues at $225 which is the same as this year.  Look for your dues notice to arrive via e-mail May 1st.   Also, and this is important, we are required to have funds into District and International by July 1st.  If not the club does incur penalties both monetary and in our quest to earn Citations and other awards.  So with this two month notice, if we do not receive your dues by July 1 st the dues increase $25.

Sorry for the length of this e-mail but lots of good work being done.  Did I mention the golf tournament?

This week’s speaker will be Ruth Dyer, Sr. Vice Provost for Academic Affairs.  Her topic will be the update on the Kansas State University’s Master Plan.

See you for lunch this Thursday!  Thank you for being a Rotarian!
