My Fellow Rotarian;

If you are like me you welcomed this past weekend’s break from the bitterly cold weather by getting the last of the outdoor decorations down and cleaning the salt and grim off the car.  But it is still winter and the meteorologists are telling us to brace for the next cold blast dubbed the Saskatchewan Screamer.  Who thinks of this stuff anyway?

At our first meeting of the New Year, we enjoyed a full house of Rotarians as many looked forward to our guest speaker Ned Seaton, Editor of the Manhattan Mercury as he recalled the top stories of last year and a look ahead to this year.  Which as an aside, I am getting e-mails from our elected representatives in Washington D.C. that NBAF funding is included in the new Omnibus Bill. This was one of Ned’s top news topics and it appears that assuming passage construction on the facility will begin. We appreciate Ned’s continued willingness to make this an annual ritual.

One of Manhattan Rotary’s points of emphasis is supporting our youth.  We do so in many ways such as recognizing students of the month, supporting youth baseball leagues and Rotary Skate day on Martin Luther King Day this coming Monday January 20th.   Jeff Geuther is chairing this event and still needs volunteers.  If you can volunteer for just an hour it would be most appreciated.  Contact Jeff at Geuther@ksu.edu to volunteer.

We also have two social outings coming up. On the 28th of January at the Chang Gallery at Seaton Hall on KSU campus will be the Fellowship Peace Exhibition and February 13th will be a tour of the new Farm Credit Building out near Colbert Hills.  Check our website to sign up if you haven’t already done so.

This Thursday our speaker will be Susan Hancock Vice President for Learning & Communication at the American Institute of Baking where she will speak to us that AIB is not just about baking!  Dang and I was hoping for a new recipe on making raisin bread!  Just kidding…

See you for lunch this Thursday!  All the best!

Dick
