Fellow Rotarians,

Last week I mentioned in my email and at our meeting that it was the time of year when our nominating committee begins identifying nominees for officer and board positions for our club.  Thanks to your prompt responses and willingness to serve, we have nominees for all of the vacant positions.  No one is happier about your prompt responses than Past President Dick Wertzberger, who chairs the Nominating Committee!  On behalf of Dick and myself, thank you to those who have volunteered or have agreed to serve.

Our club's "Yellow Tag Committee"  has organized a service project.  This Sunday, November 2nd from 8am-12pm, we will be completing school grounds clean up and a play ground face lift at Ogden Elementary School.  I know this is short notice and I know many of us have church and family related activities on Sunday morning, but let's do our best to support this group of new members with this important activity.  Even if you can only help for a short period, we want and need your involvement.  I' m impressed with how our newest members have embraced the idea of "service above self."  Please contact Martin Seay, Shawwn Martin, Megan Loftin or myself if you can help with this project.  A flyer with details is attached.

Last week Kevin Ingram reminded us of the importance of The Four Way Test and how our daily actions and decisions should be based on that standard.   The test asks us: "Is it the truth, is it fair to all concerned, will it build goodwill and better friendships, will it be beneficial to all concerned?"  I appreciate Kevin's timely reminder of the importance of The Four Way Test and how as Rotarians we are called to apply it to everything we do.  We recognized Larry Pollack as our latest Paul Harris Fellow.  Congratulations Larry!  As a club we are making great strides in raising the percentage of members who are Paul Harris Fellows.

Rob Edleston, President of Manhattan Area Technical College presented an update on MATC.  With funding from the state decreasing, the administration of MATC is attempting to get a sales tax initiative on the April ballot to provide funding for anticipated growth needs in the future.  I appreciate Rob's passion for MATC and it's mission.

Please be sure to join us this week as another good meeting is being planned.  I look forward to seeing you this Thursday.
