Dear Rotarians.

We had a full agenda at last week's meeting and it is very rewarding to witness all the good things going on in our club.  Thanks to Ken Gartner, Cassidi Green and Walgreens for providing flu shots to our members.  We had the pleasure of welcoming our newest member Phil Mattox as well as recognizing our newest Paul Harris Fellow, Greg Denver.  Welcome Phil and congratulations Greg!  We then heard from a seemingly very optimistic Bruce Weber about the upcoming men's basketball season.  I suppose it would be difficult not to be optimistic when one of your best 3 point shooters on the team stands 6'11" and weighs 260 pounds!

Last Thursday evening, our club met with the Konza Club for a time of social interaction at Powercat Sports Grill. What a great way to get acquainted with fellow Rotarians here in Manhattan. I appreciate the efforts of the Fellowship Committee of Sam Gillespie, Keith Westervelt, and Dan Devlin in making this evening possible. Other than the dumping of a very large cooler of ice water, it was a wonderful evening.  I 'm not sure why I challenged Konza to anything related to ice water.  Next time, we'll have a bake sale.   Several Konza  members expressed to me a desire to do more socials together and I hope we will make this a priority.

Chris Nolte continues to improve our club's public relations as well as our visibility in the community.   A social media presence for our Club has been created on both Facebook and Twitter. I’m providing the links below for members to simply click and be taken to those pages.  I would encourage you to ‘like’ or ‘follow’ our Club’s activities on these pages as photos of meetings and events will be included as well as reminder and information about meetings, socials and other special events.

I will be out of town for this week's meeting which means you'll have the pleasure of President-Elect Betty Stevens presiding. Thanks in advance to Betty for covering for me.  We will welcome new member Steve Lambert and will also recognize another Paul Harris Fellow.  Our program this week is Tim Austin,  Incoming President of the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Our club is growing and vibrant, thanks to all of our members who give of their time and talents.  If you haven't been able to attend recently or to be involved in club activities,  I would encourage you to do so as there are a lot of good things happening in the Manhattan Rotary Club.  I hope you will join us this Thursday for lunch.
