My Fellow Rotarian;

Ok, whoever has been praying for rain needs to stop…now!  I have called Kansas home now for over 20 years and it still amazes me how we can have these weather patterns where we either get nothing for  over a month or 4 inches in a day!  Add to Monday's rainfall the first 9 days of June and we have received near 8 inches of rain in some spots. Through May we have received 11 inches year to date so it would be nice to spread this out!  Oh well, enough whining for now.   Although I did read that parts of SW Kansas got over 5 inches and it still wasn’t enough to post any flood warnings!  That part of Kansas definitely needs the moisture.

Last week we heard from Gordon Hibbard from the 4H Foundation.  He gave us an update on the work people have done throughout the state, the successful campaign to raise money to continue the good works of 4H and an update on the work being done or about to start at Rock Springs.   Another great program!

I chaired my last Rotary board meeting  as your president and while we didn’t have a lot to discuss I did want to share with you that thanks to your generosity, it looks like we will reach our goal for giving to the Rotary Foundation.   Thank you all so much who gave.  Also, you will see another reminder on dues going out via e-mail.  If you have paid please disregard but if you haven’t, your attention is greatly appreciated.   Your board of directors are very pleased with those renewing.  We have had very few resignations. Of those it was due to moving out of town or work conflicts.

The board also formally approved purchasing a new electronic attendance application and scanner.  Soon instead of initialing next to your name you will scan the bar code.  This will then be uplinked to our website and automatically track attendance.

President-elect Scott Emily has begun distributing sign up sheets for committees for his Rotary year.  We are very pleased with the response so far.  At this weeks meeting we will have an updated committee template sign up sheet for you to review.  He asks that add your name or respond yes or no next to your name if you wish to continue or not.

Juneteenth is Saturday June 21st.  Dave Denning and Jeff Geuther are leading the charge.  Thanks to your involvement we have a great number signed up to distribute ice cream but would like more to walk in the parade or if that proves difficult, you can act like you are in the movie, “Rain Man” and ride in a beautiful 1949(?) Buick convertible.  I will be walking, will you?

This Thursday our guest speaker will be Christian Cruz, one of our two Global Grant recipients currently working on his project in Brazil.   He is back on campus and is going to give us an update on his progress.

See you for lunch this Thursday!  Thank you for being a Rotarian!
